Monastero Carmelitano e Chiesa di Santa Maria della Vita

.

Founded as the Convent of the Augustinian Nuns in 1824 by Don Paolo Mariani, it can only be visited in the part relating to the Church of Santa Maria della Vita, with a permanent exhibition of icons inside, in front of the adjoining Church of the Madonna dello Spasimo, dating back to the early 1500s and commissioned by Ramberto Malatesta.
The Augustinian nuns remained there until the early 90s. They founded a boarding school for rich girls, in which Giovanni Pascoli’s sisters, Ida and Maria, also studied and lived from 1874 to 1882. The monastery had a great influence on the poetry of the poet from Romagna, who dedicated various works to it and of which there is an inscription in memory above the entrance to the current guesthouse.

Currently the Monastery has become a Carmelite, it offers hospitality service for groups of pilgrims and tourists looking for a place of silence and peace.
