Founded as a Convent of Augustinian Nuns in 1824 by Don Paolo Mariani, it can be visited only in the part relating to the small church of the Madonna dello Spasimo, dating back to the early 1500s and commissioned by Ramberto Malatesta.
The Augustinian nuns remained there until the early 1990s. They founded a boarding school for rich girls, where Giovanni Pascoli‘s sisters Ida and Maria also studied and lived from 1874 to 1882. The monastery had a great influence on the poetry of the Romagna poet, who dedicated several works to it. Currently, a hospitality service is offered in the adjoining guesthouse for groups of pilgrims and tourists seeking a place of silence and peace.
