Taking CAI path 115, one descends in the direction of Passo dei Meloni, an evocative place from which one can enjoy beautiful panoramic views ranging from the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines to the Riviera.
Travelers, following this well-known ridge, will encounter the Urgòn Spring, subsequently descending along path 115a and then ascending again on path 115 one enters the historic center of Sogliano al Rubicone. The center holds some unique architectural beauties: the “Fountain of Butterflies” by Tonino Guerra in Piazza Matteotti and “The Girl with Book” by Ilario Fioravanti in Via xx Settembre. In the center there is also a museum apparatus full of pearls, in particular the Palace of Culture, houses permanent exhibitions such as the “Permanent Exhibition of the Musical Record and Recording” and the “Collection of Arte Povera,” the “Museum of Leonardo Da Vinci and Romagna,” “Museum of the Christa Line,” the “Veggiani Collection,” also worth a visit is the MUSO – Museum of the Subsoil, the ancient icehouse, the Mining Museum and the characteristic Fosse del formaggio di Sogliano DOP. We recommend reservations for the above-mentioned places. Leave the town center and walk in the direction of the Municipal Sports Field along Trail 115 and then head towards the Uso River. A natural curtain of reeds leads to a forest characterized by the presence of Black Pine, ancient oaks, elder trees and various blackberry plants, whose fruits, in the right season, are a comfort to wayfarers. Downstream, we skirt the riverbed for a long stretch and then turn, at the height of the “La Rocca” farmhouse, onto path 111 toward the fascinating Pieve di S. Maria a Pietra dell’Uso, built on a small cliff, so dear to Tonino Guerra. This part of the trail is within the Montetiffi Alto Uso SCI (Site of Community Interest), which offers a remarkable array of fauna and flora: the most common mammals are roe deer, wild boar, foxes, wolves, hares, badgers and porcupines; among the tree species, we point out downy oaks, manna ash, juniper, holm oak and field elm. We continue along a beautiful ridge that offers splendid views of the Uso Valley (Trail 111) and then rejoin Trail 115g and return to Strigara.
