The Savor Trail covers a length of 17 ,7 km and an elevation gain of 618 meters; approximate walking time: 5h 25m.
Recommended parking in the Cemetery area and then leave and head towards the village of Montegelli where there is the ancient Pieve di S. Stefano in Murulo which houses inside a reproduction of the grotto of Lourdes. Along path 111, cross the Rio Montegelli to land at an area that offers splendid views of the Uso valley and enter the Montetiffi Nature Oasis.
You will encounter “Gelsi Park” and the Pieve di Pietra dell’Uso very dear to Tonino Guerra.
Continuing on, you will reach Vernano where there is the ancient Church of San Benedetto, a religious monument dating back to the 12th century. Near the church stand two tall oak trees (Quercus pubescens), monumental works of nature. The tallest measures 17 meters with a trunk circumference of 3.9 meters. In Sogliano oaks are often associated with a church; this is surely an expression of a pattern and not the result of some randomness. In fact, the tree, thanks to its shape, represents the means of communication between the three worlds: the deep abysses penetrated by the roots, the earthly surface and the infinite sky with its constellations, to which the branches tend. From Vernano we slowly ascend to Meleto by taking path 123a; Mount Meleto is one of the highest hills in the Sogliano area (600 m); an ancient oratory dedicated to S. Maria Assunta di Meleto and one of the few monuments dedicated to the memory of German soldiers stand there. Leaving Mount Meleto behind, one crosses a large forest from which the Fosso di Villa dell’Uso, a tributary of the Savio River, has its source.
Following path 123, one returns to Montegelli passing through “CÃ di Nuccio” and “le Ville,” small clusters of houses surrounded by greenery and breathtaking views.
