Roberto Mercadini – Human Animals
A political animal (Aristotle). An animal endowed with reason (Aristotle again). The only animal that speaks (Dante). A ferocious animal (Nino Pedretti). The Naked Ape (Desmond Morris). A monkey that knows how to behave like an insect. An animal whose nature seems to want to push the limits of its nature. There are many ways in which, over the millennia, Homo sapiens has tried to define itself.
This narrative tells the epic of our species through some traits that distinguish us, because they are eternal, but in eternal transformation. Societies: from packs to states. War: from bare hands to nuclear devices. The fire. Food. The cults. A sometimes dizzying, sometimes comical overview to understand what we are. What distinguishes us and what unites us to chimpanzees, ants, viruses, any other part of Nature.
