MUSO
An excavation into history
Welcome to MUSO: the Museum of the Underground of Sogliano al Rubicone, where history mixes with the earth. Located in the heart of Sogliano, this museum offers a fascinating immersion in the underground depths of this location now told under Palazzo Nardini, the museum’s headquarters.
Thanks to meticulous restoration work, Sogliano’s underground past comes to life before your eyes. Inside the museum, an interactive table with a touch display awaits you, which will act as a guide on your journey. There are also projections, stories, images, sounds, customs and traditions that come together to tell the story of a community that has been able to transform the underground into an economic and cultural resource of the first order.

As you explore MUSO, you’ll find three main subject areas:

UNDER THE EARTH
We will reveal the link between Sogliano and the land itself, made up of minerals, microorganisms, materials and sediments that have a deep historical significance. You will discover how man over the centuries has been able to exploit it in different ways, shaping the territory and its identity.

FLAVOURS AND TRADITIONS
The caves and pits that were once used for the storage of food and wine, together with the maturation of the famous fossa cheese, are today symbols of identity of a community that has handed down its culinary heritage through the generations.

BEYOND THE UNDERGROUND
From coal mines to handicrafts, such as terracotta trays for baking bread and piadina, you will discover how the subsoil has contributed to the economic and cultural growth of Sogliano.
