MUSO
An excavation in history
Welcome to MUSO: the Museum of the Subsoil of Sogliano al Rubicone, where history mingles with the earth. Located in the heart of Sogliano, this museum offers a fascinating immersion into the underground depths of this locality now told beneath Palazzo Nardini, the museum’s headquarters.
Thanks to meticulous recovery work, Sogliano’s underground past comes to life before your eyes. Inside the museum, an interactive table with touch displays awaits you, acting as a guide on your journey. There are also projections, stories, images, sounds, customs and traditions that come together to tell the story of a community that has been able to transform the underground into a first-rate economic and cultural resource. Exploring MUSO, you will find three main thematic areas: UNDER THE EARTH
We will unveil the connection between Sogliano and the earth itself, made up of minerals, microorganisms, materials and sediments that have deep historical significance. You will discover how man over the centuries has been able to exploit it in different ways, shaping the land and its identity. TASTES AND TRADITIONS
The caves and pits that were once used for storing food and wine, along with the maturation of the famous fossa cheese, are now identity symbols of a community that has handed down its culinary heritage through the generations. BEYOND THE UNDERGROUND
From coal mines to handcrafted objects, such as terracotta pans for baking bread and piadina, you will discover how the underground has contributed to Sogliano’s economic and cultural growth.
