The town of Barbotto rises 548 meters above sea level, between Rontagnano and Savignano di Rigo.
It gives its name to an imposing climb, very famous among cycling enthusiasts, that starts in Mercato Saraceno and reaches the top right at Barbotto.
A demanding 4.6-kilometer climb with an average gradient of 8% and a final ramp, about 1km long, at 14%. In a small section of the climb you can even reach 18% gradient.
It is the symbolic climb of the cycling race “Nove Colli” (the oldest in the World and among the most popular in Italy), which stops here every year, and has seen in the past several passages of the “Giro d’Italia,” the last time in 2020.
At Barbotto there is a monument dedicated to the well-known cyclist and unforgettable champion Marco Pantani.
