Route of 4.3 km with an elevation gain 304 m that is completed in 1h 45m walk. Departure from the village of Montetiffi, included within the SCI Montetiffi, Alto Uso, a protected naturalistic area of about 1,400 hectares, characterized by the presence of downy oaks, manna ash, junipers, holm oaks and field elms. Montetiffi is known for being the town of pan making, an art handed down for many generations. On the top of a cliff stands the thousand-year-old Abbey of St. Leonard, built by the people of Montetiffi in the 11th century and donated to the Benedictine monks. It is one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Emilia-Romagna; inside are preserved 14th-century frescoes, a 17th-century baptismal font and 14th-century epigraphs. A short distance away, the “Agostino Venanzio Reali Museum-Art and Poetry,” which collects the works of Reali, a biblical scholar, painter, poet and sculptor, can be visited by appointment. This singular “artist of faith” rests in the small cemetery of Montetiffi, which we would meet at the beginning of our hiking trail.
