The Mistedia of Romagnano bears witness to the place where, in the year 1563, an apparition of Our Lady was recorded; mistedia is a dialect term for “Maestadina,” indicating a tabernacle placed along a street where a sacred image is kept. Tradition says that on April 8, 1563, the Blessed Virgin appeared to a young girl named Agatha, while she was grazing her flock, expressing her wish to be honored there. The shepherdess, deaf and dumb from birth instantly acquired hearing and speech and ran to tell her parents what had happened.
Before long the bishop had the new church built in Romagnano, according to Our Lady’s wish.
From that time until today those places are a pilgrimage destination for devotees.
At the precise site of the apparition (Montepetra, loc. Giampreti) there is today a small cell, which can be accessed by a path that starts near the bridge over the Chiusa di Montepetra Bassa.
