There was a moment when our country appeared happy. These are the years straddling 1958, immediately before and immediately after the beginning of the economic boom. People were – or seemed – happy, full of future in their eyes. And if there is a man who embodies all this in his body, if there is one who with his voice, with the vital drive that inhabited his every step, fully represents those years, this man is Domenico Modugno. Nel blu is the intimate story of a man from a land forgotten by God – that Puglia that would remain on the outskirts of the kingdom for decades to come, at least until I too left it to seek an artistic life elsewhere – who sets off on an adventure to “be an actor” and finds himself, after a few years, teaching the whole world to “fly”, dragging away with an irrepressible scream every gloomy residue of the post-war period. I will try to approach his story with all the care possible, so as not to betray a man of my land, not to betray my land itself.
