Written and performed by such a beloved actor as Tindaro Granata, I’d like a voice is the result of an intense creative journey carried out with the high-security inmates of the Messina prison house, as part of the project “The Theater for Dreaming.” The focus of this monologue, constructed through Mina’s songs sung in playback, is the dream: losing the ability to dream means having a part of oneself die. “With the inmates,” Granata says, “we staged Mina’s last live concert, at the Bussola, on August 23, 1978. The idea was to enter into their own memories, into their own space, where everything would be possible, recovering an annulled femininity, the freedom of expression of one’s own soul and body, in a place – like prison – that, by force of things, tends daily to annul all that. Each of them had two songs by Mina at their disposal and, through lip-synching, they had to convey the strength and power of their own story… I do not want to and cannot bring the girls from the prison house on stage, because what we did in that place is right to remain with them and for them. On stage there is only me: but of the girls I bring their eyes, gestures, tears and smiles. Thanks to them, I tell stories of people who seek an important redemption: the love of life, that strong drive that allows you to endure everything, just to achieve a dream.
